5 Common Car Accident Injuries

When you become a victim of a car accident, it's likely that you will suffer from a few injuries. Some of those injuries can be long-lasting. Here's a look at some of the more common car accident injuries. If you were in an accident and suffer from one of these injuries, you may be eligible for compensation.

  1. Soft Tissue Injuries

Oftentimes, car accidents result in soft tissue injuries. This type of injury refers to an injury to your body's connective tissue. Ligaments, tendons, and muscles are all types of connective tissue.

One of the more common types of soft tissue injuries is whiplash. When you suffer from whiplash, your neck and back muscles stretch out as a result of a sudden movement. The sudden stopping of your car is usually enough to cause whiplash.

At other times, injuries can occur to your mid or lower-back. These injuries range from sprains to severe issues. In either case, the injury can be painful and debilitating. It can keep you from work and cause you some serious trouble.

2. Head Injury

The impact of a car accident often results in a type of head injuries. Although they come in many forms, head injuries can have a major impact on your life. The sudden change in direction of your vehicle could result in a muscle strain in your neck and back, like whiplash. However, that same event can cause your head to hit your steering wheel or side window.

The impact you experience could have a few results. For one, it could cause a scrape or bruise to your head. Sometimes, it causes a deep laceration that requires stitches. One of the more severe results is a closed head injury. Although the damage on the exterior might be minimal, the interior damage could be severe. The fluid and tissue underneath your skull could be damaged. As a result, you may suffer from a concussion or even brain damage.

3. Chest Injury

When you're incar accident, your seat belt protects you. But it can also be a source of injury. A big impact could cause the seat belt to exert a lot of force on your chest. As a result, you might have severe bruising.

Another culprit of chest injury is the steering wheel. Sometimes, the force of an accident flings you into your steering wheel. As the driver, you don't have much room between you and the steering wheel. Your chest could push so forcefully into the steering wheel that you get a bad bruise or contusion. However, it could also lead to broken ribs or internal injury. Both types of chest injuries would require hospitalization. The medical bills could become too high to handle. On top of the bills, you could be out of work.
